This is England's Oldest 9 Hole Golf Course The growth of the North Eastern railway system in the mid-1800's killed off Alnmouth's coastal shipping trade but it encouraged wealthy families to build houses or rent holiday cottages in the village and subsequently led to the formation of the Alnmouth Golf Club in 1869 later to become Alnmouth Village Golf Club. The Village is the oldest nine-hole links course in England.
